Sometimes a property doesn’t need to be completely reinvented—it simply needs its potential recognised.
Located in Rye’s sought-after back-beach pocket at No 16 Beach, this property presented an opportunity to breathe new life into an original coastal shack through a fast, highly considered cosmetic transformation.
The brief was simple: retain the relaxed character of the original beach house while creating a fresh, stylish and highly liveable coastal retreat—without overcapitalising.
The transformation focused on the elements that would make the greatest impact. A fresh coastal palette, new flooring, lighting, window treatments and carefully selected furnishings were complemented by improvements to the kitchen, bathroom and living spaces. Outside, landscaping and considered styling enhanced the connection between the house and its natural coastal setting.
Rather than replacing everything, existing elements were retained and refreshed wherever possible, demonstrating how thoughtful design decisions, clever procurement and disciplined spending can dramatically change the way a property looks, feels and functions.
Completed in just two weeks, the refresh transformed a tired beach shack into a warm and inviting coastal escape with a relaxed sense of understated luxury.
The Coastal Shack Refresh is a perfect example of the Bella Peninsula Property philosophy: recognising potential, understanding where to invest, and creating distinctive homes through thoughtful design, bespoke sourcing and commercially conscious decision-making.
The refresh was also a strategic commercial decision, transforming the existing dwelling into an immediately liveable and income-generating asset, helping to offset holding costs while plans progress for the property’s next stage of development.
